When thinking about product recommendations it’s important to understand that some Cortex stages treat merge tags differently. Below you will find a guide for the Cart Abandon stage. The article discusses how recommendations are generated specifically for this stage. For information on product recommendations for other stages, click here.
Understanding Product Recommendations for Cart Abandon
The purpose of this stage is to get a customer to re-engage and convert on all or one of the items left in the cart. Read below for the details on how each product recommendation is populated. This stage normally has a high conversion rate, so discounts are not needed. Product recommendations are useful for pulling shoppers across the finish line.
Recommended Product 1
Cortex will utilize its artificial intelligence to populate the first merge tag as one of the items left in the cart. This gives the customer a reminder that they were planning to purchase this particular item and will prompt him/her to click the item and convert. See examples below:
Recommended Products 2 - X
This is where the power of true AI, utilizing Cortex is leveraged. Advanced: selecting a recommendation scheme.
The Cart Abandon template is set to a recommendation scheme of "Cart Abandon + Similar Products" which means rec 1 = an item left in cart, rec 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. = product recommendations.
The other recommendation scheme selection is "Only Cart Abandon Products", which means you can show all items left in their shopping cart. You will need to use pure HTML for this functionality so you can use conditional formatting to only display items left in cart and not display empty placeholders. Please see the attached HTML you can use as a guide when writing this custom formatting.
